Planet Doctors is a not for profit foundation, created by practicing, specialised doctors keen to offer their services to those living through post crisis situations and developing their health services. Planet Doctors supports medical practitioners and health planners with specialised skills to volunteer in health centres and education institutes in developing countries.
Planet Doctors is different from other medical volunteer associations because:
- We know that no one model fits all in developing countries so we provide specialised medical services and health care planning expertise which are specifically requested in the host areas;
- Our medical practitioners not only provide essential treatment, but also share their skills by undertaking training and teaching activities over an extended period of time (minimum 4 – 8 weeks);
- We bridge the gap between relief and development by providing services in post crisis situations;
- We help health services in developing countries to modernise and make the most of new opportunities offered by e-health;
- We have a Board of skilled members from various sectors capable of mobilising support and resources to provide medical equipment and supplies;
- Our volunteers are all professionals, willing to pay for their travel, accommodation and living costs and to offer their services to provide help to children, women, and men in areas that really need the help;
- We ensure political support of the state and local governments in host countries (through memorandums of understanding) before services are provided.
